The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #5)

The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #5) by Rick Riordan

Blurb:

All year the half-bloods have been preparing for battle against the Titans, knowing the odds are against them. Kronos is stronger than ever, and with every god and half-blood he recruits, his power only grows.

Review:

People don't just appear on the beach unless they're demigods or gods or really, really lost pizza delivery guys. (It's happened – but that's another story.)

Welp, this is it, huh? It's over, it's really over. What an awesome ride this story is, what a satisfying ending to a series this book is. I'm really happy I read these books. really sad that they're already done, and really glad that there are more books by Rick Riordan to read.

I was seriously hoping Chiron would say something good, like No, that's our huge friend Leroy! He's going to help us! But no such luck. He simply nodded. "The most horrible monster of all, the biggest single threat the gods ever faced."

Obviously, this is the last book in the series, hence, I can't really say anything about it without spoiling at least a small portion of the story. If you've read the first four books here's what you can expect: Not as much fun (as the first three books) but a loooooooooot of fighting. After 100-150 pages the story was about to move on to a fight scene and I was really confused because I didn't think Riordan would be able to spend the entire rest of the book just on that particular battlefield but he totally did and it totally worked. It was so amazing seeing how everybody somehow managed to play their parts.

And when demigods use cell phones, the signals agitate every monster within a hundred miles. It's like sending up a flare: Here I am! Please rearrange my face!

Sure, the ending could have been different and more severe but I do think that this was pretty much the perfect ending for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. It had all of the tension, conclusion, jokes, and teasing it needed. We already know that the survivors are going to get themselves into trouble again but for now they really deserved what they got. I'm utterly satisfied.

It was one of those typical "and-so-they-died/the-end" stories that always made us demigods feel warm and fuzzy.

Rating:

This is easy: 5/5 stars, it really did deserve it. The entire series does.
